Europa (demo)

This was in yesterday's Indie Direct. Good looking game, not super polished, but the game still has charm and the jump & glide mechanics are maybe the the most interesting. The farther you go, the more they add to the jump & glide aspect. The demo was entertaining enough to complete the demo.

@WoomyNNYes You did well to finish it. I've found it a frustrating experience. Jerky camera, invisible barriers. It's not far off from being an enjoyable experience, but the camera needs sorting.

I got myself to a point that seemed to be where I should be getting to, but then my next destination wasn't clear and every direction I tried to glide in just wrestled control away from me and put me back where I was. Maybe it's just restricted due to being a demo, but a game that looks like a glidey exploration game, but has invisible barriers, is too much of a tease for me.

And I'm not sure the wild animals add much to the experience. They are poorly rendered.

But I'll keep an eye out for the finished product still.

You guys had me at blood and semen.

What better way to celebrate than firing something out of the pipe?

Huh. The demo took me about 15-20 minutes by just always walking towards the next pillar of light whenever I wasn't sure where to go. Honestly it felt like I should have been getting lost so I was impressed I kept ending up right where I should be. I admit I was curious if the random invisible barriers are part of the game or just there in the demo. Even though it was a bit janky, I enjoyed the demo and wishlisted the game.

I agree the animals are a bit pointless, though it is funny you can stand on a turtle and then have it walk around, carrying you.

Oh, that's what it's supposed to do...

@gcunit what the heck 😆 How did you get the turtle to do that. I admit, I thought some of the jank in the game was a bit charming. I always love games where you can jank-climb up on places you are clearly not actually supposed to be on.

@FishyS I just jumped on its head, punched in the Konami Code and shouted "Dance *****!" 🤠

Hey, I would have put this in the Sea of Stars thread, but there wasn't one...
Does the game have a hard mode accessible from the start? I've heard it's rather too easy for some people. I mean a proper "Hard" difficulty setting, not a self-imposed challenge.

I send one message and the thread just dies.

@sunny63 I think you're ok to make a thread for your sea of stars question. And regarding the thread dying after you ask about sea of stars, you can still get silence even if you post about a popular game. I've posted in Breath of the Wild thread recently and gotten crickets. It happens.😁

On top of that, the NL forum traffic appears to have slowed a good deal with the arrival of spring in the northern hemisphere. I think most people on this site are in the US/UK/EU. And.. on top of that, I think things have also slowed some because it's the end of the Switch cycle. When a new console launches with new games, this place will get quite busy again.

@WoomyNNYes Alr thanks. I've got some other games from the library now, and the demo fell flat for me, so I'm not really interested in SoS now anyways.

Just saw the article on No Man's Sky's new update. Sounds like a good way to ease oneself in, but I'm mainly looking for something to play alongside Outer Wilds when I get stuck on the puzzles, and more first-person space exploration doesn't sound like what I want. How different is this from OW? What's the goal exactly; fighting guys, getting rich or just finding cool stuff? My other pick would be Another Crab's Treasure because of the brilliant marketing; I know NL gave it a 5/10 but framerate doesn't bother me and I've heard the dev improved it anyways.

Does anyone know any games like Carrion where you get to play as a non-humanoid monster? preferably an eldritch horror like in Carrion...

Hello folks! I just wanted to pop in here to get some suggestions/recommendations regarding a very specific kind of game that I'm interested in grabbing in the (hopefully) near future. This one's going to require a fair bit of exposition beforehand so bare with me XD

You see, there's a government scheme currently going on in Ireland where you're able to recycle designated plastic bottles/metallic drinking cans in order to earn back a fair bit of cash and, for the past couple weeks, I've been building up my collection like there's no tomorrow. I've currently made about €10.50 (each bottle/can is worth about €0.15/0.25 each) and I'm heavily considering using the money earned from doing this over the next couple months to pick up a new game.

However, given that the whole reason I'll be able to get this game in the first place is thanks to recycling and doing my part to take care of my local area's ecosystem, I figured that I'd want to grab a game that's evocative of that very concept. So I wanted to ask you guys: what are some Switch games that have a nature/protecting the planet type of premise/vibe to them? I'd personally prefer games that are available physically but if you have a particularly fitting game that's digital-only, hit me with it anyways! Currently got both Pikmin 3/4 (already nabbed 1+2 for my birthday last year) and/or Xenoblade Chronicles: Definitive Edition in mind but I'd love to hear some of your own personal suggestions!

@Fizza I don't know about saving the environment, but here are some nature-ish games which come to mind (I've played all of them but Endless Ocean):

  • A Short Hike
  • Abzu
  • The First Tree
  • Grow: Song of the Evertree
  • Everything
  • Endless Ocean
  • Haven Park
  • Endling: Extinction is Forever

@Fizza You've got the Power Washer-clone, Fresh Start.

@Fizza I know that this is the Switch recommendations thread, but if you don't mind it not being on Switch, I just got an email about there being a new Humble Bundle of Save the Earth type games, 7 for $10. So there's that.

@Xyphon22 As far as I can tell, all the games in that bundle are available on Switch too (and a couple have already been mentioned). Obviously they will cost a bit more on Switch though.

Thanks for the suggestions so far guys, these are all fantastic!

@FishyS I played A Short Hike back around November of last year and absolutely adored it so I'll definitely be giving the other games you've listed a look as well! (especially Everything; I don't know what it is about it but that name cracks me up XD)

@Allspice Ohhhhh I remember Alba from a while back; that's made by the same people behind Monument Valley right? Looks pretty fun!

@Magician Oh now THIS looks right up my alley. I've never played Powerwas Simulator myself (not yet at least ) but Fresh Start looks like the exact kind of game I'm looking for. The physical version's pretty cheap on Amazon too, definitely gonna keep it in mind!

@Xyphon22 @dmcc0 Don't have the means to access Humble Bundle myself but I'll definitely give it a look if/when I get a PC (provided its still around of course XD).
